The Alliance has today (7th March) welcomed the new guidelines on published by NICE on Cochlear Implants. The guidelines will expand the criteria that health professionals use when determining who is eligible for a cochlear implant within the NHS.

Professor Kevin Munro has written an update on behalf of the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Adult Hearing Loss Guideline Committee. It is anticipated that the Committee will consult with stakeholders in November on the new guideline which will be published in May 2018.

On 1 October 2015 North Staffordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) brought into force its policy to end hearing aid provision for people with mild hearing loss and to severely restrict access to hearing aids for people with moderate hearing loss, becoming the first ever area in England to ration free NHS hearing aids since the inception of the NHS.
